The plans as received from Carrying Place Canoe and Boat Works contained a half breadth drawing of the hull forms. In order to work from a full size template, I had a local duplicating shop produce a mirror image of the half breadth drawing. Using spray adhesive, I mounted both halves onto 1/4" mdf. The building tips from Carrying Place recommended tracing the drawings onto tracing paper. I didn't like the tracing technique on the last canoe I built, so I decided to try something new.

A jigsaw was used to cut out the template. I cut just outside of the lines for the center form, 0.

My 12" disc sander was used to sand the template to the line.

The template was traced onto 3/4" plywood.

The template has been traced and the centerline and waterlines have been drawn onto the plywood. Since the canoe has a symmetrical shape, two identical forms are made for the fore and aft stations (only one middle section, 0, is needed). I screwed an extra sheet of plywood underneath each form so that I could cut out the duplicate form at the same time. The deck screws holding the two sheets of plywood together can be seen above.
